The following application requirements apply for scholarships to be awarded by the Military and Civilian Spouses’ Club of Fort Irwin, California for the 2018 Scholarship Campaign. Scholarships will range in value. 

​For 2018, there are FOUR scholarship categories: 

HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATING SENIORS 
UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE STUDENTS OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL < 5 YEARS 
UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE STUDENTS OUT OF HIGH SSCHOOL > 5 YEARS 
POST-GRADUATE DEGREE STUDENTS

Eligibility:

Scholarship applicants or the applicant's parent/guardian must be an active, honorary or special member of MCSC. Please refer to the MCSC website for more information on how to join the club http://www.mcscftirwin.org/join-the-club.html

Further requirements/restrictions: 
Active duty and active duty reserve service members are not eligible for scholarships. 

Applicant must be enrolled or intend to enroll in an accredited academic institution on a part-time or full-time basis.  Eligible academic programs must award a degree or certificate upon completion. 

Individuals who have been awarded and have accepted a full scholarship from other sources are not eligible to apply for MCSC scholarship funding. 

Total academic expenses for scholarships recipients must exceed the amount of the scholarship awarded. 

Applications are judged on academic achievement, community service, extracurricular involvement, essays and letters of recommendations. Applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, rank of sponsor, sex, age, or financial need. 

Applicants may reapply after previous award/denial as long as they meet all of the eligibility requirements and turn in original material to include the essay answer and letters of recommendation. 


Requirements and Procedures:

1.  The Applicant is responsible for ensuring that all items sent under separate cover, such as transcripts, are received by April 6, 2018.  Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

2.  A hard copy of your application must be submitted by mail.  Electronic versions will NOT be accepted. 

3.  Two scholarship recommendations (use attached form) must be included with the application.  The two recommendations are to be from a person outside your family. High School applicants must have one (1) academic and one (1) character reference. GED recipients, private and public home-schooled students, undergraduate, and graduate applicants must have one (1) academic or professional recommendation and one (1) character reference.  Acceptable sources for recommendations include but are not limited to: school faculty members, employers, supervisors, members of volunteer organizations, or members of the clergy. Recommendation forms along with a typed letter of recommendation need to be placed in an envelope, which has been signed across the seal and dated by the recommender.  Forms must include contact information.  Envelopes with enclosed forms and letters must be attached to the application. 

4.  The essay must be 300-500 words in length, based on one of the topics listed on the application, and typed (10-12 font, double spaced).  The essay will be judged on writing ability, content, grammar and punctuation.  All essays must be typed. 

5.  Completed (refer to page 4), signed applications must be received by April 6, 2018.  Please mail your completed application to the following address:

6.  Payments of the awarded scholarships will be made to the financial office of your college or university.  All awarded scholarship money must be used by January 31, 2019. Any remainder of funds at that time will be remitted to the MCSC treasurer.  If funds are not deposited by this date the check will have an immediate “stop-payment.” 

7.  Notification of scholarship outcome will be received by mail regardless of receipt of scholarship. Notification will be sent no later than May 30, 2018. 

8.  All scholarship awardees are encouraged to attend the Scholarship Award Ceremony. More information will follow on the ceremony.
